Environment + Climate

A safe and stable climate and access to clean water are two of the most urgent and interconnected drivers of flourishing communities, public health, and ecological richness and resilience.

Cutting super pollutants that are powerful drivers of climate change—such as methane and gases like HFCs—is one of the fastest ways to reduce warming now, protecting families and the places we call home from worsening fires, floods, and extreme heat. At the same time, safeguarding and improving water quality protects our health and the rivers, lakes, and coastlines we cherish.

How we contribute

Across climate and water issues, strong leaders and organizations are already advancing solutions. But the challenges are significant. We focus on helping these leaders’ efforts connect, align, and gain traction.

We fund the capacity that helps partners move from ideas to action. Convenings among advocates, scientists, community-based organizations, and their partners to identify common goals and align on shared priorities. Collaboration between unlikely allies. Better use of science and data in decision-making. Compelling narratives that communicate the benefits of nature and environmental protection to communities.

By supporting leaders to work on shared goals—and directing resources toward the most effective solutions—we increase the likelihood that climate and water protections accelerate and are durable, benefiting all of us today and future generations tomorrow.

We believe that by supporting and expanding the formations of people and organizations working to reduce climate super pollutants and advance clean and healthy water, we help drive progress that protects health, ecosystems, and our shared prosperity.

Reducing climate super pollutants

We help strengthen the field working to advance global reductions in air pollutants that are also among the most powerful drivers of climate change, such as methane and HFCs. Building on a decade of investment, we support scientific and economic analysis, identifying new ways to reduce emissions, building bridges that can lead to common priorities, and strengthening communications about the pathways and benefits of reducing powerful and fast-acting climate pollutants. By reinforcing coordination and closing critical gaps, pollution reductions can accelerate, yielding benefits to public health, the environment, and economic vitality.

Protecting clean water

We focus our efforts on strengthening and expanding the field of clean water champions who work to ensure everyone in the United States has affordable access to clean, drinkable, swimmable, and fishable water. We support connections and trusted relationships among local, state, and national organizations; leadership development and shared learning; emerging science; unified narratives that capture attention; and the investments needed to propel progress. Together, these efforts help protect streams, rivers, and lakes in communities nationwide.
