San Francisco

In our hometown of San Francisco, we Invest in high-impact collaborations that help the City and its residents thrive. We work with the community to address significant challenges as varied as downtown and neighborhood vibrancy, housing/homelessness, public safety, workforce development, and greenspace–looking to support leaders who are identifying powerful points of intersection.

Our grantmaking in San Francisco focuses on support for strong leaders, goal-oriented collaborations, and shared tools and resources to address the City’s interconnected challenges–and opportunities.

Grantee Spotlights

First Thursdays

Downtown San Francisco is a vital economic and cultural community hub, which experienced significant disruption during and after the COVID-19 pandemic. Today, the city’s public spaces and social infrastructure offer opportunities for revitalization and community building.

Hosted at the intersection of the historic East Cut and Yerba Buena neighborhoods and designed to foster civic pride in Downtown, First Thursdays is a free monthly street party in Downtown San Francisco featuring local food, shopping, live music, activities, and performances, with an estimated 15-20,000 residents participating each month.
