Kat Vang joined the Pisces Foundation in 2025 as its inaugural San Francisco Lead. In this role, Kat directs the foundation’s local grantmaking, focusing on the connections and collaborations that will contribute to a more thriving, vibrant San Francisco. She brings over a decade of experience in community-based research, strategic advising, and community organizing to this position.
Prior to joining Pisces, Kat was a director at Open Impact, a philanthropic advisory firm specializing in strategy and governance design for Giving Pledge level donors, family foundations, and place-based funders. During her 5-year tenure, she developed strategic roadmaps that committed $170 million in grants, advised on governance for several foundations with more than $1 billion in assets, and co-founded a climate talent initiative that secured $3 million in seed funding during its first year. Kat previously served in strategy and program advising for the University of California Cooperative Extension, supporting Hmong and Lu-Mien farmers, academic research, and scaling social enterprises. Kat is an alum of the Bill Emerson National Hunger Fellowship, where her work focused on community wealth building and food policy.
Kat earned a B.S. in sustainable agriculture and food systems from the University of California at Davis. Kat has called San Francisco home for over a decade and enjoys solo adventure traveling, Ocean Beach sunsets, and sharing delicious meals with friends and family when she is away from work.
